World Liberty Financial (WLF), the cryptocurrency venture backed by the Trump family, has launched a formal token buyback program for its WLFI governance token. The move comes as WLFI remains down more than 73% since its post-election drop.
Here are the details of the buyback plan.
WLFI Announces Buyback to Support Token
On November 6, World Liberty Financial announced a new buyback program for its WLFI governance token. The company plans to use revenue from its ecosystem, including fees earned from reserves backing its USD1 stablecoin, to buy back WLFI tokens.
However, WLFI has not revealed how much money it will spend or when the purchases will begin.
The plan is designed to do more than reduce WLFI’s circulating supply.
“The goal is to encourage active participation in WLFI governance and consolidate voting power among our most committed long-term holders.”
Importantly, the company described the buyback as a long-term plan, not a one-time move. This matters because only around 32% of WLFI’s 100 billion token supply is currently circulating.
The Trump family also owns about 38% of the company behind the project, with its crypto interests including WLFI and the USD1 stablecoin.
WLFI, TRUMP, MELANIA Into a Deeper Drop
The timing of the announcement comes after a major sell-off in Trump-linked tokens following the 2026 US midterm elections, where Democrats made major gains.
WLFI plunged roughly 10% immediately after election night, adding to an already weak year for the token. From its November 2025 high of $0.1744, WLFI has fallen more than 73% to now trading near $0.047.
The pressure is not limited to WLFI. The Official Trump (TRUMP) token has fallen roughly 85% over the past year, while Melania Meme (MELANIA) has dropped around 41% this year.
Warren Could Add More Pressure on Trump Crypto
The buyback also comes as Democrats prepare to take control of key congressional committees in January.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, expected to become chairwoman of the Senate Banking Committee, has already criticized Trump-linked crypto businesses and could push investigations into the Trump family’s DeFi operations, overseas capital links, and banking efforts.
