Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse says the simplest crypto strategy right now is straightforward, buy the top five cryptocurrencies by market cap and hold them for the next five years. “You are going to do great,” he said. As of now, that top five includes Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, BNB and XRP, meaning Ripple’s own token sits inside the basket Garlinghouse is recommending.
On Solana, He’s Not Picking Sides
When asked why someone should choose XRP over Solana, Garlinghouse said he isn’t trying to convince anyone to pick one over the other. He revealed he personally owns a small amount of Solana and described himself as bullish on a range of cryptocurrencies for different reasons, not just XRP.
He credited meme coin activity for driving a significant amount of liquidity into Solana, saying that a lot of that activity has been built on top of the network. Garlinghouse said he doesn’t necessarily view Solana as a direct competitor to XRP, adding that it will likely come down to how each network’s ecosystem develops over time rather than one clearly beating the other.
A Basket Approach Over Picking Winners
Garlinghouse’s comments reflect a broader theme he has repeated in recent interviews, that he isn’t interested in convincing retail investors to bet everything on XRP alone. Instead, his advice leans toward diversification across the largest, most established cryptocurrencies rather than picking a single winner, even as the company he leads is built around XRP itself.
Garlinghouse said he expects both Solana and XRP to do well, with the outcome depending largely on how things play out for Ripple versus the Solana Foundation over time. He added that he doesn’t consider Solana a competitor and described himself as friendly with the people behind it, though he acknowledged there are other projects Ripple competes with more directly than Solana.
