Louisiana State Employees Retirement System, which manages $16.3 billion in assets in the United States, increased its Bitcoin-related investment by increasing its purchase of Strategy shares. According to BitcoinTreasuries.NET data, the fund’s Strategy portfolio reached 21,300 shares and the value of this position was approximately $2.13 million.
Indirect Bitcoin investment came to the fore
This step reinforced the trend in which institutional investors are choosing to access Bitcoin indirectly through publicly traded companies that hold crypto assets on their balance sheets, rather than buying directly. The Louisiana fund also continues to hold a position dependent on movements in the Bitcoin market through Strategy shares.
Louisiana State Employees Retirement System increased its stake in Strategy shares to 21,300 shares, reaching a position of approximately $2.13 million.
The fund had previously entered Strategy investment as part of its portfolio. The last increase showed that the position was not closed, but was expanded. This chart indicates that some traditional investors continue to approach Bitcoin-related assets through more controlled channels, despite concerns about high volatility.
Strategy’s role
Strategy, where Michael Saylor is the chairman of the board, has come to the fore with its Bitcoin-focused treasury policy in recent years, in addition to its background in business intelligence software. The company created one of the world’s largest institutional Bitcoin reserves by purchasing additional Bitcoin through capital increases and debt instruments.
Due to this structure, the performance of Strategy shares is considered largely sensitive to the value of the company’s Bitcoin assets. The choice of the Louisiana pension fund also provides the opportunity to participate in these price movements through a regulated exchange company without assuming the obligation to store Bitcoin directly.
Strategy stands out as one of the major companies offering indirect access to the crypto market for traditional investors while continuing to accumulate Bitcoin.
Cautious approach continues in pension funds
Pension funds have long stayed away from direct cryptocurrency investments. Price fluctuations, storage processes and regulatory uncertainties had an impact on this distance. In contrast, some large funds have begun to establish limited exposure to publicly traded companies, exchange-traded products and digital asset-related instruments.
The Louisiana fund’s latest move showed that corporate structures that manage public employees’ retirement assets are also evaluating options in this area more closely. However, instead of purchasing Bitcoin directly, the investment is directed towards a company that stands out with its Bitcoin reserves.
Thus, while the fund maintains the opportunity to benefit from Bitcoin’s possible price rise, it does not undertake operational processes such as wallet management and storage. On the corporate investment side, this model is expected to stand out for a while, especially in large portfolios that prioritize risk management.
