Best Trading Platforms for Crypto Traders Who Want to Test Before They Commit

Crypto traders are used to apps where a position opens in one tap and costs nothing to try. Moving into CFDs on forex, shares and indices adds leverage, d~3ifferent cos t structures and different trading hours, and the cheapest way to learn those differences is to rehearse them before any real capital is involved.

Four platforms are covered below, ordered by how well they support that rehearsal. OneRoyal, founded in 2006 and reporting clients in 163 countries, comes first for pairing a no-deposit demo with a low entry point, followed by eToro, IG and TradingView.

Why Practice Comes Before Capital

Trading apps have removed much of the friction that once slowed decisions, and that has a measurable effect. IOSCO’s May 2025 final report on digital engagement practices warned that such app features can encourage retail investors to trade more often when it may not be in their best interest, and its good practices stress investor education.

A demo account adds a deliberate pause, on the trader’s own terms. Three questions separate a useful one from a decorative one: how much virtual capital it offers, how closely it follows live conditions, and what it lets a trader practise, whether that is copying, leverage or order types. A trader who answers all three before funding anything has a far clearer picture of what a live account will ask of them.

Top Pick for Testing First

OneRoyal sits first here because it pairs a no-deposit demo on real-time price movements, across a 2,000+ instrument range that includes crypto, with live accounts opening from $5 on Classic and ECN. The path from rehearsal to a small live account stays short.

OneRoyal

The demo account needs no deposit and runs on MT4 and MT5. It lets a trader test strategies against real-time prices in forex, commodities, crypto, indices, shares and ETFs, and OneRoyal’s demo page says a personal account manager is available even with a demo account.

When the rehearsal ends, Classic and ECN both open from $5, although the exact amount depends on the payment provider and the client’s country. Classic carries no commission and quotes spreads from 1.4 pips, while ECN charges $3.50 per side per lot against raw spreads from 0.0. Demo availability and account terms depend on which of the four entities carrying the OneRoyal name holds the account, so confirm that first.

Copy trading adds a study route. Before copying anyone, a follower can browse strategy provider profiles that set out each provider’s approach, history and risk level, and then set their own parameters.

Large Virtual Balances

eToro and IG both pair a demo with a large virtual balance. eToro’s demo page credits $100,000 and IG’s credits $20,000, but the size of the balance matters less than what each one lets a trader practise, and the two differ there.

eToro’s demo runs CopyTrader the same way it works in real mode, and lets a trader apply leverage and stop loss orders. That suits someone who plans to follow other investors. IG’s demo is built around charts, alerts and a deal ticket, backed by educational material on IG Academy, which suits a trader who wants to practise placing and managing orders. The balances are virtual, so they say nothing about live costs, and neither demo is a plan for live conditions.

A Simulator Inside the Chart

TradingView’s Paper Trading is a free simulator that works from the charts a trader already uses. It trades simulated money with no deposit, and its support page says it covers almost every asset class on the platform, including stocks, forex, crypto and futures.

It is available globally to all users, and its role is practice only, since live execution goes through a connected broker. That makes it a useful first step for anyone still deciding where to open a live account.

What a Demo Cannot Show

Every demo leaves something out, and IG says so on its own page: demo trades are not subject to slippage, interest and dividend adjustments, or out-of-hours price movements. A strong demo result therefore shows a trader’s process but cannot forecast live conditions.

Execution, holding costs and thin markets are the three gaps to check on any platform, OneRoyal included.

From Demo to Live in Small Steps

A sensible route runs from demo to a small live account and then to gradual changes in size and markets. Each stage answers a different question: whether the platform suits the trader, whether live costs and execution match expectations, and whether the trader’s habits hold up under real conditions.

For crypto traders crossing into multi-asset CFDs, OneRoyal offers a short route along that path: a no-deposit demo to begin with, then live accounts that open from $5, with the exact minimum depending on the payment provider and the client’s country, and always with an amount the trader can afford to lose.
