Joe Burnett, Director of Market Research at The Bitcoin Way, argues that this trend indicates Bitcoin is becoming more intertwined with traditional capital markets.
Much of global capital moves passively, chasing returns and copying how the market allocates capital. The world is starting to own Bitcoin and they don’t always even realize it.
The change in policy attracted attention
At the beginning of 2024, under Tim Buckley, who was the company’s CEO at the time, Vanguard did not allow its customers to buy spot Bitcoin ETFs on its brokerage platform. Former BlackRock executive Salim Ramji, who later took part in the launch process of BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin ETF IBIT, took office as the new CEO of the company.
Ramji’s appointment was seen as a sign of a more open approach to digital assets. The company made its first major policy change in this area by lifting its ban on cryptocurrency ETFs towards the end of 2025. In contrast, Vanguard emphasized that it does not plan to launch its own crypto investment products.
While Vanguard has lifted the restriction on cryptocurrency ETFs, it has made clear that it has no plans to launch its own products.
2026 steps strengthened corporate interest
The company continued to increase its share of companies pursuing a Bitcoin treasury strategy throughout 2026. In this context, he took larger positions in companies such as Strive Asset Management. Vanguard first disclosed its significant stake in Strive in April, and it was seen that its holding increased to 27.63 million shares.
In July, the company published a job posting for the first Head of Digital Assets position for Individual Asset Management. This step raised expectations that Vanguard was preparing to expand its corporate structure in the field of digital assets.
