The performance difference between Bitcoin and Ethereum continued at the end of July. Bitcoin is trading at around $65,000 while Ethereum remains just above $1,950. Latest data revealed that Bitcoin displayed a more resilient outlook on the price side, while the activity in derivative markets increased more significantly in Ethereum.
The difference in price performance has widened
According to TradingView data, the loss of value in Bitcoin was limited to 29.77% in the examined period. In the same period, the decline in Ethereum was 41.96%. This chart indicated that despite the general weakness in the cryptocurrency market, investor interest was relatively more directed towards Bitcoin.
As the largest cryptocurrency in terms of market value, Bitcoin is in a decisive position in the general direction of the digital asset market. Ethereum is followed as the second largest blockchain network that stands out with its smart contract infrastructure. This divergence between the two assets also reflected the divergence in investors’ risk perception.
TradingView data shows that the decline in Bitcoin, at 29.77%, was below the 41.96% decline in Ethereum during the examined period.
Ethereum stood out in derivative markets
CoinGlass data showed that Bitcoin open position size has fluctuated between $45 billion and $49 billion in the last month. Maintaining open positions during a period when the price is relatively stable indicates that investors continue to hold positions in Bitcoin derivative products.
On the Ethereum side, a faster increase was seen. The open position size, which was at 22 billion dollars at the beginning of the month, increased to approximately 28 billion dollars towards the end of July. This increase is considered a signal that investors trading in Ethereum are preparing for larger price movements.
Mini dictionary: Open position refers to the total number or size of contracts that have not yet been closed in the futures and options markets. An increase in this indicator may mean new money entering the market or new position opening.

Risk appetite supported digital assets
Latest market data showed that risk appetite in traditional markets has also strengthened. Nasdaq futures indices increased by 1.37%, while S&P futures indices increased by 0.87%. The decline in oil prices was also among the factors supporting this outlook.
Crypto assets are among the asset classes that can find support in periods when investors tend to take more risks. Therefore, the rise in stock futures indices and the decline in energy prices may also have a positive impact on the digital asset market, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
While Bitcoin remains stronger on the price side, the increase in open interest in Ethereum shows that investors are positioning for the possibility of a sharper move.
In the current outlook, Bitcoin remains ahead in terms of relative price strength. The derivative market growth in Ethereum indicates that the performance gap between the two assets may narrow in the future if spot demand also strengthens.
