In the artificial intelligence-supported security review conducted at the request of Switzerland-based non-profit Shielded Labs, no additional serious errors were detected in the Zcash protocol. This information was shared on X by Zooko Wilcox, one of the leading names of the Zcash ecosystem, on Saturday. Shielded Labs is known as an organization that supports Zcash developments.
Review after urgent update in Zcash
Zcash developers temporarily suspended Orchard transactions after a vulnerability was detected in the hidden pool on June 3. The team announced that functionality was restored with an urgent update that was rolled out on the same day. The latest review also pointed out that no new, more serious problems were observed in the protocol after this intervention.
According to the information shared by Wilcox, the AI-supported audit did not find a new, more serious error in the Zcash protocol.
Orchard stands out as part of the current sandbox architecture used for privacy-focused transactions on the Zcash network. Zcash is known as a cryptocurrency network that focuses on hiding user transaction data.
Mini dictionary: Orchard is the pool design that updates Zcash’s protected transaction structure. Shielded pool refers to the privacy layer that aims to make the transaction amount and party information invisible on the chain.
New AI models raise security debate
While developers in the crypto industry are using new AI models to search for vulnerabilities, on the other hand, the security risks posed by these technologies are also being discussed more. This dual picture attracts attention, especially in terms of open source software and financial applications.
Anthropic released Fable 5, the first public release of the Claude Mythos model family, on Tuesday. The company announced last month that the Mythos model found more than 10 thousand high or critical severity vulnerabilities in systemically critical software. This situation raised questions about whether it was appropriate to present the model publicly.
Anthropic reported that Fable 5 was made suitable for general use, but in some sensitive topics such as cyber security, users were directed to a different model, Claude Opus 4.8.
The company announced on Friday that it suspended access to the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models due to the US export control order imposed on national security grounds.
The balance of threats is changing in the crypto industry
Mitchell Amador, CEO of bug bounty platform Immunefi, said in a recent interview with Cointelegraph that the proliferation of new AI models is tipping the cybersecurity balance in favor of threat actors. While Amador described this situation as an explosion of vulnerabilities, he stated that this was feeding the renewed increase in attacks in the field of decentralized finance.
According to DefiLlama data, the total loss in crypto attacks in April reached 634 million dollars. This level was the highest amount seen on a monthly basis since the approximately $1.4 billion loss caused by the Bybit attack in February 2025.
| period or event | Loss amount |
|---|---|
| Total crypto attacks in April | $634 million |
| February 2025 Bybit attack | Approximately 1.4 billion dollars |
