A representative with authorized voting power (DRep) in the Cardano ecosystem abstained in the significantly modified Singapore Cardano Summit 2026 governance vote, with 17.71 million ADA votes. The representative cited the reasons that, despite the improvements made, the costs, revenue expectations and event strategy were not satisfactory.
Abstention votes and their reasons
In the vote on the revised Cardano Summit 2026 Singapore proposal, DRep, one of Cardano’s key stakeholders, announced that it abstained. While the representative argued that the new proposal was better audited than the previous version and the expenditure items were clarified, he still did not find it sufficient for a positive vote.
The total amount of ADA used in the vote, in which DRep abstained, was announced as 17.71 million. The representative stated that the new proposal reduced the budget by 22% and emphasized independent audits.
DRep stated that the latest changes improved the quality of the proposal, but the summit was still not sustainable enough and had difficulties in self-financing.
While the possible connection with the TOKEN2049 event was severed with the revision, the total requested budget was fixed at 7.8 million ADA (approximately 1.95 million dollars). In addition, the Cardano Foundation increased its contribution to $380 thousand.
Budget, revenue and sustainability question marks
In the representative’s statement, it was noted that the proposal is still largely financed from the Cardano treasury. While the targeted income amount was reported as 450 thousand dollars, it was noted that the total expenditure reached 2.26 million dollars.
It was also reported that 6.24 million ADA will be present at the start of the event. DRep noted that although it was understandable that the proposal was submitted outside the normal budget process, despite major spending items being planned in advance, the event still lacked standing on its own feet.
In the evaluation of the proposal, the view that smaller-scale and target-oriented meetings could be more economical and efficient than the big summit came to the fore. Among the alternatives, specially invited meetings, side events, business trips and desk meetings with business partners were highlighted.
Mini dictionary: DRep means an authorized representative on the Cardano network who is elected by the community and exercises weighted voting rights. ADA is the official cryptocurrency of Cardano.
Latest situation in the ADA ETF process
During the voting period, an ETF application related to ADA remained on the agenda. Last year, it was announced that Grayscale had applied for the spot ADA ETF. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) launched a new regulation called “General Listing Standards” for crypto ETFs in September 2025.
In this context, it was essential that ADA futures be traded regularly on CME for at least six months. According to the information, ADA futures contracts began trading on February 9, 2026. Accordingly, the required six-month period will be completed in August. It was stated that the SEC will have a period of 75 days to make a decision, and according to this calendar, a possible decision could be made on October 23, 2026.
Although the ETF process and the Cardano Summit voting proceed independently of each other, both developments seem to be important for the future of the Cardano ecosystem and market expansion strategy.

In his latest statement, the authorized representative underlined that the changes made mean progress, but they demand clearer evidence on the path to sustainability and clear indicators on measuring the impact.
