Right Guard users can now claim their cash from a nearly $2 million settlement. The settlement resolves a class action lawsuit that alleged Right Guard deodorant products were falsely advertised as providing 24-hour odor protection.
The lawsuit, which was filed in 2018, alleged that Right Guard deodorants were falsely advertised as providing 24-hour odor protection when, in fact, the products did not provide such protection. The lawsuit also alleged that Right Guard misled consumers by claiming that its products were “clinically proven” to provide 24-hour odor protection.
Right Guard has denied any wrongdoing, but has agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of further litigation. Under the terms of the settlement, Right Guard has agreed to pay up to $1.9 million to eligible class members.
Class members who purchased Right Guard deodorant products between January 1, 2014 and December 31, 2019 are eligible to receive a cash payment of up to $10. To be eligible, class members must submit a valid claim form and provide proof of purchase.
The deadline to submit a claim form is April 30, 2021. Class members who do not submit a valid claim form by this date will not be eligible to receive a cash payment.
Right Guard has also agreed to make changes to its advertising and labeling practices. The company has agreed to clearly and conspicuously disclose on its product labels that its deodorants do not provide 24-hour odor protection.
