Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange, is considering adding Bitcoin’s Lightning Network for payments. Their goal is to offer more crypto payment options to their global users. CEO Brian Armstrong acknowledged that it is a tricky addition but worth doing to promote Bitcoin payments. The Lightning Network uses micropayment channels between nodes to speed up payments on the Bitcoin blockchain at a low cost. This technology helps decrease network congestion by conducting several transactions separately and bundling them into one before submitting them to the main blockchain. The Lightning network has a total capacity of over $138 million at current prices.
