67% of block production in Solana was concentrated in Europe during this epoch

Glassnode data pointed to a noticeable geographic concentration in the Solana validator network throughout the current epoch. According to the information shared by the company, while block production passes to a new leader every 1.6 seconds, 67% of the blocks produced in this period appear to be of European origin.

European dominance came to the fore in block production

Glassnode stated that the leading nodes are concentrated in the current epoch, especially in Europe, more specifically around Frankfurt. The company’s Solana latency panel helps users choose optimal ports by monitoring validator locations and network latency. While the average delay measured from Frankfurt was 72 milliseconds, on the US east coast this time was approximately 140 milliseconds.

Glassnode announced that block production moves to a new lead every 1.6 seconds, and in the current epoch, 67% of blocks are produced in Europe.

In the Solana architecture, validators take turns acting as network leaders and successively propose new blocks. Because the leader changes at very short intervals, it is important for validators, RPC providers, transaction companies, and decentralized application operators to connect to low-latency infrastructure. Lower latency can contribute to faster movement of transactions across the network and limit delays that may occur during peak periods.

Mini dictionary: It refers to the time period in which validator tasks are planned for a certain period of time in networks such as Epok and Solana. RPC provider is the technical access layer that provides data transmission between user applications and the blockchain network.

Location Average delay
frankfurt 72 milliseconds
US east coast Approximately 140 milliseconds

Geographic distribution does not show ownership structure

Solana operates with a high-performance-oriented proof-of-stake structure rather than proof-of-work. This structure aims for fast transaction processing capacity and is based on frequent changes of leader nodes. Therefore, the physical location of validators can affect how quickly transactions reach the node that is currently producing the block.

However, the temporary concentration of leader nodes in a single region does not mean that ownership or governance of the network is centralized. This table mostly reflects the regions in which the validators who will take part in the relevant epoch are located. Since validator assignments change from epoch to epoch, it is also possible for the geographical landscape to differ over time.

Temporary regional concentration does not indicate centralization of network ownership, but rather the location of validators scheduled in that epoch.

It is of operational importance for infrastructure providers

The latest data is especially important for infrastructure providers, decentralized exchanges, market makers and institutions operating latency-sensitive applications. Faster connections to leading nodes can help transmit transactions more reliably, especially during periods of sharp market movements.

Individual users are not expected to always feel the direct performance difference. Nevertheless, this technical structure in the background is among the factors that support Solana’s prominent position as one of the fastest public blockchain networks. Developers can also use latency data to improve RPC routing and increase application responsiveness without changing the blockchain protocol.

Network performance monitoring tools become more prominent

Glassnode’s publication of its latency panel shows that the interest in the crypto market is not only on token prices but also on network infrastructure. As institutional participation increases and decentralized finance applications grow, monitoring network performance through validator distribution is becoming a more important operational metric.

The shared update does not indicate any developments related to regulatory decisions or the ETF process. Rather, the data makes it visible in which regions block production takes place in the current epoch and offers network participants the opportunity to shape their connection strategies accordingly.
