Losses on the Aztec and Taiko frontsSuspicious incident on MEV bot and BNB ChainThe nature of threats is changing

Successive security incidents in the cryptocurrency ecosystem in recent days have once again revealed that attack methods are not limited to smart contract errors only. Incidents affecting Aztec, Taiko, Labubu, and an MEV operator in the Ethereum ecosystem have shown that protocol design, automation logic, and cross-chain verification layers have become new areas of risk.

Losses on the Aztec and Taiko fronts

One of the most notable events took place on the Aztec side. The project faced two separate attacks in three days. In the last incident, approximately 2.5 million dollars were lost through the Private Rollup Bridge due to the problem in the protocol’s escape hatch mechanism. It was reported that the first security vulnerability that emerged a short time ago was caused by the incompatibility between the number of transactions and the committed rollup data.

Mini-dictionary: Rollup is a second-layer scaling structure that groups transactions outside the main chain and then writes them to the chain in bulk. Since part of the verification in zero knowledge-based systems occurs off-chain, harmony between on-chain and off-chain controls is critical.

Successive events have shown that it is becoming more difficult to maintain security in increasingly complex second layer and zero knowledge architectures, and vulnerabilities can arise especially at the intersection of on-chain and off-chain verification systems.

Taiko similarly announced a breach affecting its chain state verification systems. It was stated that the incident caused a loss of approximately $ 1 million, after which users quickly began to withdraw their assets from the affected bridges. Taiko is known as a second layer network developed for Ethereum and stands out with its structure that is especially compatible with Ethereum.

Project Type of incident Loss
aztec Escape hatch and rollup data incompatibility Approximately $2.5 million
taiko Violation of the chain status verification system Approximately 1 million dollars

Suspicious incident on MEV bot and BNB Chain

Jaredfromsubway.eth, one of the well-known MEV operators in the Ethereum ecosystem, was also the target of an unusual attack. It was stated that the attacker misled the bot’s automated transaction logic rather than directly exploiting a classic smart contract vulnerability. By using fake wrapped assets and misleading liquidity pools, it was given the impression that there was a sandwich opportunity that brought profit to the system. It was later recorded that approximately 15 million dollars of assets were stolen thanks to the permissions given by the bot.

Mini dictionary: MEV refers to methods of gaining additional profits by influencing which transactions enter blocks and in what order. Sandwich trading means taking advantage of the price difference by placing transactions before and after a user’s buy and sell order.

In this case, instead of exploiting a traditional contract exploit, the attacker manipulated the bot’s automated trading logic to fool the system into believing it was a profitable opportunity.

There was a loss of approximately 1.15 million dollars in the Labubu project on BNB Chain. It was reported that the incident was related to the serious deterioration of the pool balance after a suspicious token parameter change. Since there were changes in the ownership structure just before the attack, evaluations that there may be an internal connection rather than an external attacker came to the fore.

The nature of threats is changing

Taken together, these cases show that risks in crypto security now go beyond simple coding errors. It appears that attackers are more frequently targeting operational vulnerabilities, automated strategies, interactions between systems, and assumptions in protocol design.

The defense process becomes more complex, especially as second-layer solutions, bridges, verification systems and automated trading infrastructures are interconnected. This table reveals that within the growing technical structure of the blockchain infrastructure, security cannot be ensured only by code auditing, and system integrity must be tested separately at every layer.
