Police forces from China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken a major step against international cryptocurrency fraud by carrying out their first ever joint operation in Dubai. This operation specifically targeted crypto investment scams carried out under the pretext of establishing romantic relationships via social media.
Huge operation with the cooperation of three countries
Within the scope of the operation, simultaneous raids were carried out in nine different locations and a total of 276 people were detained. The details of this operation, which was carried out with both technical means and intelligence sharing, were shared with the public by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security.
China’s Ministry of Public Security announced that grievances have increased due to “crypto love traps”, which have spread rapidly in recent years, and that cross-border police cooperation has become inevitable against this increasing threat. Fraudsters developed emotional closeness with victims on social media and got them involved in crypto projects with the “promise of high profits”. Such cases have caused serious financial losses in different countries, from China to the USA.
An official from the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said, ‘Our police force will continue joint operations by increasing practical cooperation with other countries against similar crimes. “We aim to completely eliminate such structures,” he said.
China, the USA and the UAE stated that they will continue their cooperation after the operation. The partnership in question is not limited to this operation only; It is planned to establish joint monitoring mechanisms for similar international organized crime organizations.
Nine different gangs were disbanded in Dubai
Nine fraud centers were disabled during the raids. Police officials stated that the most comprehensive romantic relationship-based cryptocurrency fraud organization detected in the international arena to date was dismantled with this operation. Both the organizers and those who manipulated the victims through social media were identified among the suspects.
In crypto love scams, fraudsters usually build trust through long conversations, and after a while, they direct the victims to cryptocurrency investments that are described as “safe, quick-earning”. Market experts state that many people may have lost a significant amount of their savings with this method.
In its statement, Xinhua News Agency stated that the operation is seen as an important milestone in solving criminal organizations in Dubai.
In the announcement made by Xinhua, it was stated that “China, US and UAE police together eliminated nine fraud nests and caught 276 suspects.”
Emphasis on cross-border struggle with global cooperation
Authorities point out that such romantic-themed cryptocurrency scams are becoming more sophisticated every day. Gangs organized in different countries exploit the emotional vulnerabilities of victims and persuade them to invest in high amounts of crypto.
In its statement following the operation, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security announced that it aims to completely dismantle these criminal networks by continuing joint work with other countries in the coming period. According to the institution, protecting the rights of victims and preventing new traps will be the main priority.
Experts are of the opinion that such joint operations can set a precedent in the international arena against fraud in the cryptocurrency market. This operation carried out in Dubai clearly shows that different countries are acting together against frauds carried out through artificial romantic relationships.
