Vitalik Buterin, the visionary name of the Ethereum world, announced to the public a critical technical collaboration that will shape the future of the network. The combination of FOCIL and EIP-8141 protocols aims to maximize censorship resistance and speed in many areas, from smart wallets to privacy-oriented transactions. This new architecture aims to eliminate bottlenecks in transaction processes while maintaining the principle of decentralization.
A New Era in Censorship Resistance
According to the details shared by Vitalik Buterin, the FOCIL system enables the inclusion of 17 different actors randomly selected in each block slot. The mechanism in question ensures that transactions are included in blocks within 1 or 2 slots at the latest, even if there are malicious interventions on the network. These structures, which have a capacity of 8 kilobytes and can be expanded if necessary, remove obstacles to gas fee-sponsored transactions and secret transfers.
The EIP-8141 protocol is based on the 7701 standard and gives smart wallets and special transaction types a built-in status directly within the Blockchain. Unlike traditional methods, these account types are integrated into the main fabric of the network, providing a more fluid user experience. The simultaneous operation of the two protocols makes the Ethereum network much more resistant to external interventions and user-friendly.
Technical Architecture That Maintains Decentralization
One of the most notable features of the new system is that it does not cede “last look” control over MEV (Maximum Extractable Value) to block bidders. Unlike alternatives such as MCP, the FOCIL structure distributes this authority evenly through ePBS. This strategic choice, which prevents bidders from becoming a central focus of power, allows maintaining a competitive environment while securing the democratic structure of the network.
The technical flexibility offered by the protocol, combined with optimizing data sizes, increases the overall performance of the network. The random selection of 17 different validators makes it impossible for any one actor to monopolize the system. This transformation, pointed out by Buterin, reinforces the vision of Ethereum to be not only an asset transfer tool, but also an uncensorable and fast global computer.
While this technological breakthrough increases transaction speeds in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, it also paves the way for new models in which transaction costs can be covered by sponsors. The introduction of advanced privacy features and smart contract wallets solidifies the technical infrastructure required for mass adoption of blockchain technology. With these updates, the Ethereum community opens the doors to a more transparent and resilient digital financial future.
