If Bitcoin is digital gold, Ethereum is digital oil, and strong interest in the RWA space reinforces its role. Trillion-dollar giants have already moved for tokenization on the Ethereum network, and RWA has surpassed $15 billion in size. Evaluating the year 2025, the Ethereum founder also shared his goals for today and beyond.
Vitalik Buterin and Ethereum
The altcoin king has accomplished a lot in 2025. Gas limits and number of blobs have been increased, node software quality has been improved, zkEVMs have overcome performance barriers. zkEVMs And PeerDAS With Ethereum, Ethereum has taken firm steps towards becoming a fundamentally new and more powerful blockchain. Too much has happened. But there are some difficulties.
In his new year message, Vitalik Buterin drew attention to the things they need to achieve for 2026 and beyond.
“But we face a challenge: Ethereummust do more to achieve the goals he has set. Not the quest to “win the next commodity” like tokenized dollars or political memecoins, not arbitrarily convincing people to help us fill block space to make ETH ultrasonic again, our focus is MISSION.
Building the world computer that serves as the central infrastructure piece of a freer and open internet.”
Ethereum’s Goal
Ethereum Saying that the network must do more to achieve its own goals, Buterin points to an era of applications that do not depend on central intermediaries. Ethereum is called by many the computer of the internet. In the new period, Vitalik adopts an approach consistent with this definition.
“We build decentralized apps. Apps that work without fraud, censorship, or interference from third parties. Apps that pass the Walkaway test: apps that continue to work even if the original developers disappear. Apps that, if you’re a user, you won’t even notice if Cloudflare crashes, or even if the entirety of Cloudflare gets hacked by North Korea. Apps whose stability transcends the rise and fall of companies, ideologies, and political parties. And apps that protect your privacy. All this – for finance, but also for identity, governance, and whatever other civilization people want to build.” for their infrastructure.
These features may seem radical, but we must remember that a generation ago any wallet, kitchen appliance, book or car fulfilled every one of them. Today, all of the above are becoming subscription services by default, leaving you permanently dependent on a central authority. Ethereum is a rebellion against this.”
Buterin almost implies that all network developments serve the ideal of a “decentralized internet computer”. speed, availability, decentralizationstrong capacity, and other targeted improved capabilities of the Ethereum network will all serve this ideal. Buterin said that they will continue to work towards this goal in the new year.
