Data Access is Reshaping with PeerDASEthereum’s “Background” Buffs

Ethereum The highly anticipated Fusaka update was activated on the mainnet on Wednesday night. Thus, the 17th major update of the leading Blockchain network was implemented. Coming after the Pectra update seven months ago, Fusaka also made it official that Ethereum has now switched to a twice-yearly hard fork plan.

Data Access is Reshaping with PeerDAS

fusaka‘s most important innovation was PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling) technology, which radically changed Ethereum’s data access capacity. This system, codenamed EIP-7594, allows validators to reduce the network’s data load by only sampling instead of downloading entire blocks of data. In this way, it is aimed for Layer-2 solutions to reach higher blob volumes and reduce transaction fees.

Ethereum Foundation, PeerDAS With the “Blob Parameter Only” updates, it will increase the blob target per block to 14 and the maximum value to 21. Capacity is expected to increase eightfold by early January 2026. Additionally, a minimum value is added to the blob base fee to prevent prices from approaching zero during low demand periods. Thus, a more predictable cost structure will be created for Layer-2 networks. Kraken’s Onchain manager Calvin Leyonsaid Fusaka is a breakthrough that brings speed for developers without sacrificing user experience.

Ethereum’s “Background” Buffs

Fusaka was not only limited to data management, but also brought comprehensive innovations to network security and performance. While energy consumption per transaction is balanced by optimizing the gas limit ceiling, Brisket Provided additional protection against attacks. Moreover secp256r1 Native support for elliptic curve has been added, improving compatibility with device-based signing and passkey technologies.

Another striking element of the update is the “Count Leading Zeros Opcode” with code EIP-7939. The feature increases the efficiency of zero-knowledge proof (ZK) technologies and makes Ethereum more resilient to possible future quantum threats. ConsensusAccording to , while Fusaka doesn’t bring dramatic UI changes, it represents the biggest technical leap in network scalability since The Merge.

Ethereum researchers have started working on the next big update “Glamsterdam”. The update, which is expected to be implemented in 2026, will be the second step of the accelerated development period initiated with Fusaka.
