US Authorities Try to Gain Access to Binance Employee Imprisoned in Nigeria

US government officials are trying to gain access to Binance employee Tigran Gambaryan, who was imprisoned in Nigeria. Gambaryan was arrested in February while in Nigeria for regulatory talks. His colleague Nadeem Anjarwalla, who was also in the case, managed to flee the country.

Detention and Health Status

Gambaryan remains in prison in Nigeria following his arrest. In August, it was reported that his physical condition was rapidly deteriorating. Gambaryan reportedly has a hernia, which causes severe pain. It is also alleged that the Nigerian government is failing to provide him with adequate medical care. Tigran’s physical and mental condition has deteriorated rapidly and is now more dire than ever. He is in severe pain and cannot walk due to a hernia. Despite his condition, the Nigerian government has not provided him with adequate medical care, including basic necessities such as a wheelchair.

Binance CEO’s Reaction

Binance CEO Richard Teng described the Nigerian authorities’ treatment of Gambaryan as “inhumane” and demanded that he be allowed to return home.

This inhumane treatment must end. Tigran must be allowed to return home to receive medical treatment and be with his family.

US Intervention

In Nigeria Punch According to the outlet, the US embassy is making efforts to gain access to Gambaryan, who is a US citizen. These efforts are reportedly motivated by concerns about Gambaryan’s health. An anonymous source familiar with the matter said the US is particularly concerned about Gambaryan’s health after his family went public with the matter.

The US is concerned about the man’s health, especially after his family made the matter public in the US… I wouldn’t say they are lobbying, they are just concerned about the lack of access to the man, who is a US citizen. As a reminder, Binance has had problems in the US as well.

Gambaryan is known to have suffered from malaria and pneumonia attacks as well as a hernia. However, lawyers for the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission argue that Gambaryan is not in poor health and that his hernia existed before his imprisonment.

This incident presents an important issue that needs to be considered in the context of international diplomatic relations and human rights. It is questionable how effective diplomatic channels are in ensuring that someone whose health condition is deteriorating receives the necessary medical attention. The future outcome of the Nigerian government’s stance and the efforts of the United States will continue to be monitored.
