White House official David Sacks, who manages policy processes in the field of cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence in the USA, changed his position and took on the role of co-chairman of the President’s Council of Science and Technology Advisers. With this new title, Sacks began to take part in one of the country’s most important foreign policy advisory bodies.
New era in the presidential advisory council
In previous months, David Sacks had become one of the names shaping crypto assets and artificial intelligence policies as an advisor to US President Donald Trump. He took an active role in the transition process of the GENIUS Act, known as the stablecoin regulation, and in the recently controversial crypto market structure law study. Sacks emphasized that the people he will serve on the council with will be experienced leaders in science and technology. It is stated that the main purpose of the advisory board is to provide recommendations that will create a road map in the fields of innovation, science and technology for the President and the White House.
PCAST was touted as the primary foreign advisory body shaping science, technology, and innovation policies for the President and the White House. Thirteen leading names from various fields in the world are expected to attend the board in the first stage.
The “crypto and artificial intelligence officer” position, previously held by David Sacks, had the status of a temporary government official. According to US law, a person can only serve in this type of role for a limited period of time. Last fall, it was reported that some Democratic members of Congress objected that this period had been exceeded.
There are important names from the technology world on the board.
The new members of the council include both leading investors in the cryptocurrency industry and well-known leaders of Silicon Valley. Marc Andreessen, one of the founders of Andreessen Horowitz, Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Dell founder Michael Dell, former Coinbase investor Fred Ehrsam, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, AMD CEO Lisa Su and Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg were announced as the first members of the advisory council.
In addition, Michael Kratsios, who served at the administrative level during the Trump era, will serve as co-chairman of the council along with David Sacks.
In a recent interview, David Sacks stated that in his new role, the council will prepare policy recommendations in advanced technology areas, especially artificial intelligence, quantum computing and nuclear energy. Sacks also stated that the artificial intelligence policy published by the White House last week will be on the council’s agenda in the coming period.
He stated that they want to advance the artificial intelligence framework, that the council will soon appear to the public with some suggestions in this field, and that they will also continue to work on different strategic technology issues.
