Google Quantum ComputerCan Bitcoin Be Decrypted?

Bitcoin $108,190.87, Ethereum $3,849.72 and for others, quantum computers are threats that have been talked about for years. This technology, which is the subject of movies, is just like yesterday’s artificial intelligence narrative. It’s a story that’s too good to be true and can constantly evolve. But it does come true. Alright Google’s Can the latest fail hack cryptocurrency wallets?

Google Quantum Computer

Google announced a groundbreaking development in the field of quantum computing with the Willow chip. They finally found it and published it in the journal Nature. A new quantum algorithm has been developed in the laboratory in San Barbara. This algorithm works 13 thousand times faster than supercomputers to date.

What is the logic of quantum computing in its shortest form? Normal computers work with bits, each bit takes the value 0 or 1. chips It allows operations to be performed using these bits. Quantum computers work according to the laws of quantum mechanics. A single object can act as two objects simultaneously. So scientists can create quantum bits that hold a combination of 1 and 0 at the same time. Quantum If the number of bits increases, the capacity, that is, power, increases. Its origins date back to the 1980s, when it was discovered that atoms could be created from electric giants. This was actually the discovery that the strange properties of quantum mechanics could be observed not only in subatomic particles but also in electrical circuits, and formed the basis of superconducting qubits.

Observations shared today in Nature magazine show that the new algorithm called Quantum Echoes achieves 13 thousand times better results in similar calculations than classical supercomputers. The focus of the research is on drug discovery and understanding molecular structures, that is, intensive use is aimed primarily in the field of health and tests are carried out within this framework.

Can Bitcoin Be Decrypted?

The Willow chip, announced by Google last year, solved a very complex mathematical problem in 5 minutes. A normal computer would need 10 septillion years to solve this problem. If it seems short, this period is trillions of times longer than the estimated age of the universe. The algorithm announced today reveals that it is possible to solve more serious problems in the real world. This power, which has begun to be used in the field of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), will be useful in understanding diseases such as Alzheimer’s and in the treatment of many other things.

Chinese The government spends 15.2 billion dollars on this work. Now let’s come to the real question: Can Bitcoin private keys, commonly known as Bitcoin passwords, be cracked when the Willow chip is combined with the new algorithm called Quantum Echoes? No. Millions of physical qubit power is needed and the technology is not yet at this level. Experts predict 10-30 years for the technology to reach this level. Google’s experiments today are at the scale of ~100 physical qubits, so there’s no need to worry for now. (Bitcoin encryption ECDSA-256 requires over 2.5 million physical qubit power.)

In the future, this technology can be widely used in the military field, artificial intelligence and many other categories. And if Bitcoin or Ethereum were to gain the power to break the encryption algorithm, the community could easily raise the encryption standard, making it more impossible for the evolving technology to break it.
