Police in Scottsdale, Arizona, arrested fake Uber driver Nuruhussein Hussein for allegedly stealing cryptocurrency from his passengers’ wallets. Hussein is said to have defrauded hotel guests by acting as a fake Uber driver from March to December. It was reported that the suspect, who stole over $300,000 in crypto money in total, will be tried for various crimes.

Fraud Method

After getting his passengers into the taxi, Hussein transferred cryptocurrency from their digital wallets, using the excuse of borrowing their phones to find directions or connecting to the Uber app. In this process, it was stated by the police that he manipulated the phones of his victims and thus transferred their crypto assets to his own wallet.

Amount Seized and Arrest

The suspect allegedly stole over $300,000 in cryptocurrency from his passengers. Hussein, 40, is also accused of threatening one of the victims, telling her to “calm down or something bad will happen.” Following their efforts, the Scottsdale Police Department quickly located and arrested the suspect.

Penalty for Crypto Extortion

Bail for Hussein was set at $200,000. Bail conditions include constant electronic monitoring and a ban on internet use. Prosecutors said the suspect was a flight risk because he traveled frequently to Ethiopia and should remain in Maricopa County.

The incident serves as an important warning to readers about the security of digital wallets against extortion. It is recommended to be careful to protect digital assets and prevent unconscious use.

Increasing security measures in the cryptocurrency field, being careful about criminals and reporting suspicious situations to the authorities can contribute to preventing similar fraud incidents.
